Position: Technical Manager
Location: Cheshunt, Hertfordshire

ROLE:
The Technical Manager will support their Category to deliver safe, legal and quality products which are sourced from suppliers with ethical labour standards. You will ensure products and suppliers meet all company policy requirement; and deliver the Category technical plan.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
a) Put all products (where applicable) through NPD / Customer Quality Test prior to launch. Ensure all products meet Tesco Pillar Brand Guidelines and Tesco Policy requirements.
b) Regularly review the quality of products against Product Specifications and Competitor products to ensure they continually meet the Quality Policy.
c) Review customer complaints and returns data for products, complete trend analysis and where required, implement product improvements or take action to remove defective products from sale.
d) Ensure all new supplier sites are Approval Audited against Tesco Standards and Non Conformances are Closed Off. You risk assess all new products to ensure that they are safe and legal; ensure that all their suppliers are supplied with the Tesco Ethical Trading Policy, they are registered on Sedex, have completed the risk assessment and any ethical audits required are completed and closed off.
e) Have a supplier Visit Programme in place to manage and drive supplier standards; and have a KPI or Scoreacrd system in place for measuring and managing supplier's performance.
f) Manage product testing requirements and follow testing failures; ensure that Pack Copies for products are delivered on time and product labelling is legal and complies with labelling policy.
g) Ensure that the packaging for products is the minimum required to protect the product safety and you proactively manage suppliers to reduce product packaging.
h) Manage third party contracts within agreed costs. Use cross category knowledge and analysis to identify where cost savings can be made through economies of scale.
i) Provide insight into costs of new and existing processes to ensure Tesco gets value for money.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:
a) Relevant degree or equivalent formal qualification.
b) Proven experience in a similar Technical Manager role, with a background in fresh produce / retail and with good manufacturing / process knowledge.
c) Ability to operate in a fast paced culture of change.
d) Experience operating across product areas within category.
e) Project management skills.
f) Range management, basic negotiation skills and supplier management knowledge.
g) Demonstrated customer focus.
h) Internal candidates are likely to have been a Technologist or Technical Manager on a related area.
