Inside Out Purchasing and Supply has been engaged by our Hertfordshire based client to recruit for a Procurement Controller.

OVERVIEW OF ROLE

This key position requires a methodical, pragmatic and dedicated individual who will assume responsibility for routine but essential daily tasks together with complex project co-ordination and an opportunity to contribute towards the development of our purchasing strategy which will focus and guide the business through a period of exciting development.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Analyse and interrogate MRP requisitions on a daily basis taking necessary actions to satisfy demand by a variety of methods to suit business needs across all product categories including indirect, ie. waste, consumables.
  • Place orders and progress/chase to ensure goods are available to meet quality, delivery and business requirements.
  • Negotiate prices, terms and conditions to obtain the best quality supply and commercial agreement with suppliers.
  • Optimise levels of stockholding and inventory investment to minimise inventory losses due to deterioration, obsolescence and other causes.
  • Ensure that the internal mainframe system is utilised to its maximum potential, records are updated and maintained for areas that purchasing has responsibility for including code set up to BOM creation and maintenance.
  • Manage supplier day to day liaison and report areas of concern or excellence.
  • Attain sufficient product knowledge to enable meaningful discussions to be held with other departments and suppliers.
  • Establish from the Sales Department via the Category Buyers, forecasts and likely demand and set stock levels/place orders/call-in material.
  • Achieve maximum co-operation and promoting correct purchasing practise with other functions and departments within the organisation.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with the supply chain overseas and in the UK, maintaining effective and regular communication.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with the Category Buyers ensuring that all aspects of supply, inventory and policy are discussed and agreed.
  • Work closely to support internal customers and design engineers to source new and existing products to satisfy end customer expectation.
  • Attend meetings internally and externally to represent department and company.
  • Deputise for the Purchasing Manager during periods of absence.
  • Undertake special tasks and projects as directed.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:
  • 2-3 years purchasing experience ideally in a 'modular' shopfitting environment and preferably within a manufacturing or engineering setting.
  • Ability to utilise affective negotiation and persuasion skills to manage and motivate suppliers.
  • Knowledge of warehouse processes and inventory management.
  • Familiarity with production parts and supplier manufacturing processes.
  • Experience of technical buying from design drawings
  • Good numeracy and analytical skills.
  • IT literate with a good working knowledge of Word and Excel, Outlook.
  • Knowledge and experience of working and analysing MRP systems.
