Role Profile

A large restaurant chain is looking to recruit a Category Manager to manage the drinks, produce or protein category (dependant on experience). Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

* To achieve best cost prices and retrospective income in line with budgets and corporate objectives whilst not compromising quality.
* Develop Central Distribution ranges and terms and improve service levels to branches
* Rationalise supply base and product range in conjunction with Operational colleagues to maximise profitability and value.
* Work with the pub division to differentiate and offer local sourcing strategies
* Provide full support to brands in terms of availability, margin, quality, market trends, advice and legislation pertaining to categories
* Work as a Team Member and help to achieve overall Department profit criteria
* Ensure timely price and product changes to meet distribution and branch requirements
* Support operational colleagues to source products for new menus where requested.
* Support menu development process for all managed categories
* Responsible for managing inflation in categories, through negotiation and new sourcing opportunities.
* Advise the business on key drinks developments; macro-economic and environmental risk factors and new product and process developments

Skills and Experiences

* Food purchasing experience, various categories, preferably within foodservice / wholesale / retail environment.
* Knowledge of the drinks, produce or protein category essential
* Strong negotiation skills.
* Proven track record of strategic purchasing / category management.
* Self-driven for personal development.
* Flexible, willing to learn and able to work within a fast moving and demanding environment the jobholder will need excellent organisational and communication skills as they will be communicating, influencing and reporting to all parts of our businesses, including company Directors.
* Knowledge of centralised distribution systems
* People skills - Ability to lead, influence and coach others. In-direct team and cross - functional.
* Flexible to changing working priorities.
* Confident to challenge standard ways of purchasing.
* Graduate Calibre.
* Minimum 3 years' experience of purchasing.
* Preferably CIPS qualified.
