The Team;
Edelman’s Health team is one of the largest health specialist communication offers in the UK. The fast-expanding team is responsible for the management of international and UK programmes for leading healthcare companies across the world.

The Role:
An opportunity has arisen for an Editorial Director to work within the BioScience division. The successful candidate must have extensive experience within the agency arena, a broad understanding of all facets of marketing communications, a strong background of pitching and winning new business, and experience of managing editorial content and teams. A demonstrated track record of developing and executing successful medical education strategies and programs as an agency practitioner is critical. He/She should have a concrete history of taking visible action to provide, directly or indirectly, high-quality, strategic creative outcomes and customer service to clients, alongside strong editorial process and efficiency expertise. This position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to assess and understand situations quickly and clearly. In addition, he/she must have a team player attitude, strong leadership qualities and experience effectively managing a group or team. This person should have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, a degree in a science discipline and/or an advanced degree is a plus.

Responsibilities include:
Providing strategic counsel to clients as required across accounts, particularly in relation to scientific communications strategy
Developing strategically and editorially sound content as appropriate, particularly for discrete high-priority projects, or during times of high editorial resource demand
Developing and writing strategically-focused scientific communication plans taking into consideration product marketing goals and objectives
Providing senior counsel to other editorial staff on data interpretation, scientific platform development, communications planning and content development across brands
Managing medical/scientific personnel to ensure that the scientific information that is provided to internal account/creative teams, as well as to external clients, is strategically sound, editorially accurate and of the highest quality
Driving editorial process accuracy across all activities, including continued refinement to maximize efficiency, meet company profitability targets and ensure alignment with industry standards/best practice
Ensuring efficient long-term editorial resource planning, including freelance utilization, team development and appropriate recruitment
Leading the continued development of the editorial team incorporating both the professional development of the medical writers alongside the on-going evolution of the editorial offering to meet market trends and to fulfill future opportunities
Aligning editorial training and capability developments with business requirements and individual professional development
Driving new business opportunities within existing accounts both individually and by supporting colleagues to realize new business ideas
Leading opportunities with potential new clients through industry contacts as well as leading editorial content presentation in new business pitches/credentials presentations

Key Requirements:
MD, PhD, PharmD or Life Science Degree
Proven experience across a breadth of pharmaceutical medical writing, with experience of providing editorial expertise across a broad range of medical education projects and therapeutic categories to a wide variety of audiences
Written communication skills: Able to oversee accuracy and quality of scientific information intended for a variety of audiences; constantly adapts to changes in client strategic direction and regulations and requirements
Attention to detail: Manages the production of accurate work, even when under pressure; verifies accuracy of information before using it or passing it on to others
Priority setting: Able to efficiently prioritize multiple tasks and provide effective direction to the medical writing and copywriting/editorial teams; can quickly evaluate the resources necessary to accomplish a goal and put those resources into action
Organizational skills: Extremely organized and efficient; can respond to rapidly shifting priorities and maintain accuracy across multiple tasks
Management skills: Able to manage internal and external medical writers, copywriters, and editors, providing clear direction and expectations; demonstrated competency in managing people, in particular medical writers and copywriting/editorial staff. Able to train staff and develop publications planning and writing expertise within the team
Presentation skills: Able to present complex topics to diverse audiences (e.g., marketing and medical personnel, internal and external clients); demonstrated competency on new business pitches and ability to assist with development and review of RFPs/proposals for new business opportunities
Excellent interpersonal skills: Ability to interact with account and creative teams, medical writers, copywriters, editors, key opinion leaders, and outside vendors
