We are looking to recruit an experienced legal secretary to join the Withers secretarial team.

Our secretaries are typically expected to support a partner and several other lawyers and are relied upon to provide a high level service to both internal and external clients. The role will at times be demanding and fast paced so you will need to be an efficient worker who can prioritise, multi-task and remain calm under pressure. You will be responsible for providing a seamless service to the lawyers you support and will be expected to build and maintain relationships with both internal and external clients.

While we consider our secretaries to be part of one large team, we are currently looking for someone to support lawyers in our Family department . The team advises on all aspects of relationship breakdown for high net worth and internationally known individuals and so experience of working within family law, or with private clients on other matters, will be an advantage.

Your duties will include: day to day diary management, making travel arrangements including international travel and hotel bookings, processing expenses, audio script work, opening new client files, updating our client management database, resolving account queries and assisting in the monthly billing process, communicating with legal staff, clients and support staff, and filing (both electronic and hard copy).
The role is a full time position and the usual office hours are 9.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday, although flexibility on these hours will be required from time to time.

Skills and experience required
We would like to hear from you if you are an experienced legal secretary with at least 1 year’s experience of working within a specialist Family team or within a major law firm. With your CV you should provide a covering letter which shows where you have demonstrated the skills of a first class secretary in line with the role outlined above.

You will also need to demonstrate that you have:

  • – A ‘can-do’ attitude
  • – The ability to accurately audio and copy type at a speed of at least 60 words per minute
  • – The integrity to handle highly confidential information appropriately
  • – The ability to communicate effectively and professionally with our clients as and when required
  • – Strong organisational skills
  • – Strong attention to detail and a team working ethos
  • – A good level of proficiency in using IT packages including databases and, ideally, document management systems.
  • – Excellent written communication with strong grammar, punctuation and spelling and a good level of numeracy
