Packaging Buyer
Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, responsible for a spend of approximately £3m PA controlling an exceptionally high number of different Flexibles, Cartons, Thermoformed and Corrugated packaging items.
Working from the Fakenham, Norfolk site ensuring packaging supply to our manufacturing sites in Norfolk and Yorkshire.
The ideal candidate will have:
" Solid procurement experience gained as a packaging category manager or buyer within FMCG.
" In-depth knowledge of key packaging suppliers to the food industry and an in-depth knowledge of the packaging manufacturing processes involved, including the commercial make up of supplier prices.
" In-depth experience of the manufacturing process and materials used for packaging film, flow-wrap and printed foil.
" A natural commercial focus with strong communication skills and the ability to influence all levels of personnel within the business.
" Excellent numerical, planning and organisational skills and a proven track record in meeting targets and working under pressure.
" CIPS qualification or equivalent (desirable).
" The ability to travel between sites and to supplier premises.
" The ability to work in an extremely fast paced and dynamic growth business.
Key Responsibilities:
" Approximate estimation of packaging component costs for rough cut NPD project budgets.
" Carry out supplier review meetings on a rolling 6 monthly basis or more frequently in the event of issues or non conformance.
" Negotiation of prices for new and repeat items.
" Evaluate surplus packaging stocks at the end of each season or campaign and manage future use or disposal.
" From the MRP module within the QAD system, identify forward demand for packaging and associated items and order from the relevant supplier ensuring best price is achieved and the required date can be met.
" Develop detailed knowledge of existing and potential supply base by category and build supplier capability analysis summaries to facilitate benchmarking process. Carry out category reviews annually to improve the overall cost to the business.
" Maintain a live packaging pricelist database
" Develop contingency/business continuity plans for all strategic and key packaging items
" Report monthly on PPV with corrective action where appropriate.
" Report monthly on supplier performance with corrective action where appropriate.
" Generate and implement supply agreements to automate and streamline replenishment in line with demand.
" Identify and deliver opportunities in terms of cost optimisation, quality and service.

Standard working hours are 9am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.
