Role / Purpose:
The purpose of this role is to plan, manage and oversee all digital work being implemented by the client and act as a source of counsel across the team, considering how to incorporate digital activities into their programmes. The Freelance Account Director is the ambassador for and is instrumental in championing digital for the client.

Key requirements:
Digital and web development experience with passion for digital brand communications and production
Experience in delivering projects in an agency environment coupled with exceptionally strong client service skills
Experience delivering projects for both local and global implementation
Understanding of digital Pan European/ Global markets and experience working across multiple countries, languages, cultures and time zones
Knowledge of and experience implementing project management principles including the ability to use project timeline management tools
Demonstrated ability to manage and scope digital requirements
Experience in data analysis and creating insights from raw data for reporting
Strong organisation and prioritisation skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and accounts at any one time and balance strategy with delivery
Demonstrated experience managing budgets and resources
Previous experience managing suppliers and other third party agencies with the ability to write clear briefs and work orders and have the confidence to challenge agencies on approach, recommendation and costs
Ability to be a strong team player, but also work autonomously and self motivate
Exceptional communication and people management skills including the ability to communicate with a diverse range of stakeholders

Responsibilities

Client Service:
Sustain key interface with clients and set the tone for staff in terms of client servicing expectations
Have high degree of professionalism and thorough understanding of client/agency relationships, and a solid understanding of how to manage and operate a business
Provide leadership in the areas of total account management including day-to-day account activity and the provision of strategic guidance and counsel to clients that will assist clients in meeting their business objectives
Proactively deliver counsel to clients
Appropriately staff business projects
Creatively develop and create strategic programmes
Manage client expectations
Arbitrate/help solve client problems
Match client needs with the right Edelman capabilities, help appoint client team
Develop strategy for email marketing programmes
Develop online strategies including writing strategy, driving the research direction, writing summary, researching competitors
Write creative briefs
Direct online advertising
Supervise account project, design, research and programming teams on projects
Plan website/newsletter copy and supervise copywriter
Review copy before sending to client
Assist the Associate Director with writing and editing client presentations as needed
Proactively manage under/over-service with the client through quarterly (or as appropriate) reviews

People Engagement:
Ensure performance expectations, career development plan and SMART goals are set and reviewed annually during the formal performance review process for all direct reports
Provide ongoing, constructive feedback to staff, consistently hold them accountable, and address under-performance in a timely manner
Mentor, coach and support all team members, and ensure you and your staff are constantly developing abilities through on-the-job training, Edelman University and networking/ industry event participation
Help attract new talent and work to build a team with diverse views and backgrounds
Develop staff to become capable of assuming more senior roles
Set achievable goals and tasks, delegate opportunities and provide resources for direct reports to meet their goals; consistently measure and recognize goal achievement
Oversee quality control of teams’ assignments including writing, pitching, proposals, reporting and delivery
Encourage teams to participate in and talk about company-wide initiatives

Business Development:
Establish achievable revenue growth targets annually
Seek out, coordinate and facilitate cross-practice and cross-geographical teams to provide clients and prospects with the most compelling work
Cultivate business growth opportunities among existing and prospective clients
Introduce existing clients to relevant Edelman capabilities, including resources outside of your own group, to advance clients’ business goals
Demonstrate Edelman’s expertise by contributing articles to digital and traditional publications, participating in organisations or engaging in speaking opportunities and by supporting Edelman’s marketing initiatives and intellectual property
Lead and contribute to new business proposals

Financial Planning and Management:
Understand core financial constructs including revenue, profitability, pricing structures (hourly retainer accounts and fixed fee), utilisation, actuals, budgeting and forecasting
Negotiate client and vendor contracts and manage client budgeting and authorisation process prior to beginning work
Develop and manage accurate client project budgets using the correct tools provided
Proactively plan and maintain team structures to ensure reasonable workloads, optimised profitability, accommodation to project and budget changes, and to avoid overservicing
Accurately record your time correctly to the right project codes on a timely basis – ideally daily, but no later than weekly
Approve time, expenses and POs accurately and regularly – ideally daily, but no later than weekly
Use the firm’s financial system to bill clients accurately and minimise delays and adjustments
Help ensure your team follows Edelman’s financial policies and processes

Leadership:

Participate in and lead on the development and adoption of new products, services, intellectual property and thought leadership materials related to your areas of expertise
Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and trends and demonstrate expert understanding of how they integrate into communications programmes
