Our Finance Department is looking to appoint a new Financial Controller. This is a permanent opportunity based in our London office with an international remit to support our offices in Europe and Asia and to liaise with our US offices. With a very stable team, it is rare for us to have a vacancy at this level and we are looking forward to appointing a new team member to help us continue to improve our high level of services.
As our Financial Controller, and with support from the Assistant Financial Controller, you will have day to day responsibility for the London finance team (including all aspects of their management) and you will be expected to contribute effectively to the firm’s commercial decision-making, strategy and business planning. Your busy and varied role will include:
- administration and control of the global banking facilities and cash flow management
- ensuring compliance with all Solicitors Accounts Rules (SAR)
- assisting in the preparation of the annual budget and forecasting during the year
- overseeing the production of the Annual Report and Financial Statements
- review of European and Asian bank reconciliations
- overseeing the reconciliation and maintenance of partner reserves
- review of the monthly payroll for UK and Hong Kong
- overseeing the reconciliation of various Elite general ledger control accounts
- overseeing the preparation and reconciliation of VAT returns, EU sales list submissions, Reverse Charge accounting and EU Savings Directive submissions
- liaison with external suppliers including banks, reporting accountants etc.
- As you will expect, there will be many related and further activities needing your attention, including assistance with a range of projects relating to internal management and business developments.
For this important role, we are looking for someone who can demonstrate an excellent track record.
- You will be professionally qualified (ACA or ACCA) with a minimum of 5 years’ experience gained predominantly in a law firm or similar professional services environment.
- You will need a strong knowledge of UK GAAP/Reporting Standards and, ideally, a detailed knowledge of the SAR.
- Inevitably we will expect you to demonstrate a high level of commercial acumen and numerical reasoning skills with very strong IT skills.
- You will also need to show us that you have the gravitas, communication and interpersonal skills to win the respect of our partners and senior managers, together with strong people management skills and great organisational skills.
