Applications are invited for two Consultant posts in Acute Medicine at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

These are new posts, and are an integral part of the planned expansion of Consultant Staff across Acute Medicine, Emergency Medicine, and Older People’s Medicine, and the reconfiguration of Emergency Services which will create a Norwich Emergency Care Centre. As part of this reconfiguration there will be an expansion of the short-stay facilities (to 98 beds in total), a new Clinical Decision-making Unit and additional Clinic space. The Unit has dedicated Radiology facilities and Point-Of-Care Testing. There are plans to expand the number of Level 1 beds within the Department during the next year.

The successful candidates will join a dynamic and forward-thinking team, currently consisting of four Acute Physicians, two Staff Grade Doctors, eight Registrars, and 12 Junior Doctors, who currently provide dedicated Clinical Care. This team works closely with the 11 Consultants in Emergency Medicine and four Consultants in Acute Older People’s Medicine.

 Applicants should be able to demonstrate extensive experience in Acute Medicine and must be within six months of achieving the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General (Internal) Medicine, Acute Medicine or equivalent.

Consultants with GIM/Medical Specialty CCT and Acute Internal Medicine candidates with a specialty interest, are encouraged to apply.

Arrangements to continue and develop Specialist Interests will be negotiated between the individual, the Acute Medicine Team and the Specialty Team.

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (1,000 beds), provides a full range of Acute Clinical Services with the exception of Cardiac Surgery and Neurosurgery.

As a University Teaching Hospital we have developed our Research and Development strategy in Partnership with the University of East Anglia.

We also work closely with our Partners on the Norwich Research Park, to take forward our ambitious targets for Research and Development.

Norwich is a fine Cathedral City and is surrounded by unspoilt and attractive East Anglian countryside, including the Norfolk Broads.
