Nazarbayev University is a newly established institution of higher education in Astana, Kazakhstan. It opened its doors in 2011, as a Western style, English- speaking university with predominantly international academic staff. It provides undergraduate programs in Science and Technology, Social Sciences & Humanities and Engineering. The School of Engineering features a 4-year BEng curriculum, with majors in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical & Electronic and Chemical Engineering. University College London is the strategic partner university of the School.
The School is investing heavily in its teaching and learning infrastructure, has started preparations to set up graduate programs, and is breaking ground to build a new research facility and extend the teaching facilities.

The Department of Civil Engineering invites applications for a full-time Associate Professor position in the area of Rock Mechanics and Engineering Geology, with research focus in problems in mining and oil-gas industries. We are looking for a dynamic and motivated person with an excellent research record, who is able to develop curriculum and deliver high quality courses related to engineering geology and rock mechanics courses.

Required Qualifications: Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, with a proven background in teaching, research and service. At least 5 years' of full time research and teaching experience. Established expertise in understanding the behaviour of mining and petroleum geomaterials in the laboratory as well as in the field. Proven experience in using industrial experimental techniques, in customization of laboratory apparatus and in field investigation. Experience in supervision of PhD students and research assistants.

Desired Qualification:
 Industry experience, professional registration or ability to be registered as a Chartered Engineer in UK or Professional Engineer in USA, experience in production technologies in natural resources extraction industry, experience in development of graduate courses and programs, and experience in interdisciplinary teaching and research. The successful candidate will take on teaching responsibilities in the undergraduate and postgraduate programs, participate in research and services to the School.
