Our Client is the world's leading producer of mobile aerial work platforms and a leading producer of telescopic material handlers.
They sell principally to rental companies and distributors that rent and sell the Company's products to a diverse customer base, which include users in the industrial, commercial, institutional and construction markets.
They have manufacturing facilities located in the United States, France and Belgium, with sales and service locations on six continents providing customers throughout Europe, Scandinavia, Africa and the Middle East.
You will be responsible for high-level, non-supervisory testing, evaluating and developing new and existing products to ensure the compliance, safety and reliability from concept phase through to the manufacturing phase.
The Role:
Perform the following tests to verify performance and validate the machine and components to Internal Standard Test Procedures and External Standards:
Mechanical - stability, vibration, vehicle & component weights, braking, tractive effort / drawbar pull.
Hydraulic - pressure, flow, oil temperature, function speeds and performance.
Electrical / Electronic - continuity, voltage, resistance, power consumption and circuit performance.
Structural - strain measurements and fatigue life predictions
Sound Level - pressure and power.
Material - non-destructive inspections (inc. magnetic particle and dye penetrant).
Automated Rig Testing - using programmable controllers and monitors.
Develop Product, System and Component test procedures.
Prepare and set-up machine and/or mechanisms for Testing.
Operate test machines in accordance with Internal Standard Test Procedures and External Standards.
Data collection using programmable loggers (Somat eDAQ, Hydrotechnik and Delta data acquisition systems).
Monitor and analyse test results to determine if test goals were achieved and data quality is good.
Record any machine issues encountered during testing, determine the root cause of failures and identify design changes needed to meet requirements.
Write technical reports and presentations for test work.
Correlate test results with field usage and revise test procedures accordingly.
Work with the Reliability Engineer to establish and confirm reliability goals for machines, systems and components.Understand the test plans prepared by Engineering and additionally the requirements to satisfy specific country Homologation requirements.
Develop project test plans with Project Engineers with minimal assistance from the Test and Development Supervisor and the Reliability Engineers.
Provide technical input for overall reliability engineering planning.
Participate in Failure Modes and Effect Analysis (FMEA), fault tree and safety analysis activities, offering knowledgeable experience and opinion for corrective action.
Supervise and train one or more subordinates (Interns or Test Technicians) doing various testing tasks, as applicable and assist if necessary.
Support the Test and Development process improvement activities.
Support the Test and Development Supervisor in developing long range plans for test personnel and identify shortfalls in the test area before they occur.
Have a thorough understanding to test administration (test plan locations, modifying test plans, reporting back to Project Engineers etc.)
Adhere to the company's Health and Safety policy and safe working practices, supporting the writing and review processes for the Test and Development risk assessments and COSHH assessments.
Perform job duties in an ethical, professional manner which is consistent with the Company Way. Conduct duties consistent with the Company's mission statement, quality objectives, and defined policies and procedures.
Maintain effective communication with suppliers, internal and external customers, and outside resources concerning technical issues.
Requirements:
Essential:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering.
Minimum 6 years related test and development experience required, preferably with off-highway or agricultural equipment.
Knowledge of Somat eDAQ data acquisition test equipment.
Preferable:
Knowledge of off-highway or agricultural equipment operations and application profiles.
A working knowledge of hydraulics and electrical components.
Knowledge of Hydrotechnik and Delta data acquisition test equipment is preferred.
Knowledge of Infield and Glyphworks data analysis packages is preferred.
Ability to use test related equipment such as hydraulic pressure transducers, flow meters, volt/ohmmeters, accelerometers and displacement transducers would be an advantage.
The ability to work well alone but be a strong team player with some leadership skills to be able to direct the efforts of others within a close knit team of diverse backgrounds and experience.
Possess a strong mechanical knowledge of vehicles and related systems.
Excellent verbal presentation, written communication skills and project planning are required.
Excellent time management and organizational skills.
Demonstrate they have worked effectively in a team environment to blend design, analysis and test disciplines to develop and execute efficient and cost effective machine development programs.
