This appointment comes at an exciting time in the development of Acute Medicine in Barnsley Hospital.
We wish to appoint a full time (or maximum part time), Consultant Physician in Acute Medicine.
We welcome any candidate wishing to continue with a Specialty Interest in a relevant Medical Specialty.
This should be discussed with the Clinical Director prior to interview.
The successful candidate will join a team of three existing Consultants, and will work with them and experienced Nursing Staff to run a newly opened, 45-bed Acute Medical Unit (AMU).
There are Advanced Nurse Practitioners on the AMU as well. During the week the four Consultants will provide cover from 08:00-18:00.
The Trust is committed to 12 hours a day/seven days a week Consultant presence on the AMU. There is an initial plan for the General Physicians to provide evening and weekend sessions, and a Business-case is being developed to appoint further Acute Medicine Consultants as soon as possible. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in this 12/7 Model of Care in the future. The Medical on-call overnight rota is provided by the General Physicians at present.
We are a Centre for MRCP PACES examinations and MB ChB examinations. There is a chaired area on the AMU, which can seat 10-12 patients, with Examination Rooms adjacent. This area is being developed to accommodate new Models of Care which, whilst not finalised, may include Physician In-reach, Rapid Access Follow-up, and Ambulatory Care streams. The successful candidate will be able to use their skills and any Specialty Interest to support this development. You will be well supported on the AMU with office space, and secretarial support.
The Clinical Director is looking to provide an additional one PA to act as a Lead Clinician on the AMU. Applicants for this post, as well as the existing postholders, are welcome to apply for this separate PA on offer.
