Our client is looking for an experienced Supplier Quality (Or Development) Engineer. Someone who has experience within Manufacturing or Automotive of visiting suppliers or internal factories to assess and improve their delivery or products, help to resolve any issues needed to ensure continuous improvement.
Supplier Development Engineer will drive improvement in the domestic and Global supply base by reducing No Call Back Quality at Inbound and Depot this will be done by improving the supplier's processes and ensuring timely NPI completions.
Developing key suppliers globally through ownership of product, process, packaging and supplier assessments to optimise product and service performance, as well as signing off NPD/NPI/Re-sourcing initiatives.
To actively advice and influence supplier selection process and ensure efficient management of continuous improvement programmes for suppliers, thereby improving product quality and customer satisfaction.
* £350m of product.
* Over 6000 SKU's.
* 500+ depots throughout the UK.
* The SDE has no direct reports but has lateral relationships with the following:
Sourcing, Technical & Laboratory.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
* To ensure that all product meets its requirements at Inbound by complying with its quality standard, drawings and specifications.
* Ensure all suppliers are aligned to the supplier assessment programme and timely rated against business criteria, to give an informed view for the purposed of supplier selection.
* Ensure all supplier assessments are in accordance are carried out to assessment schedule providing consistency and clarity on suppliers' strengths & weaknesses.
* Ensure consistency and integrity in processes and ratings that will be visible and relevant to business requirements.
* Implementing actions to improve product and supplier performance. Reviewing supplier's production methods.
* Ensuring that all performance reports are vetted and issued out on a period basis to allow effective updates on key suppliers.
* Lead / support major quality concern investigations via 8D and NCRs at the customer, within primary and at the supplier. Ensuring full root cause analysis and effective countermeasures have been implemented.
* Ensure the smooth implementation of self-assurance with all suppliers, managing, vetting and publishing the reports on the Quality internet to allow the inbound quality to use as part of their inspection.
* To effectively manage new product introduction (NPI) into the supply chain from a quality perspective.
* To provide key information to category sourcing managers to help drive supplier alignment.
* Respond with a high sense of urgency to quality issues and escalate / communicate appropriately.
* Develop best practices throughout the supply chain.
* Ensure that suitable key performance indicators are implemented recorded and effectively maintained on an on-going basis for all key areas of responsibility.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
* HNC - Degree qualified in relevant discipline.
* Manufacturing process and materials.
* Root cause analysis skill - 8D, 5WHY, etc.
* Audit & Product Approval experience.
* Operational knowledge of a complex and diverse supply chain.
* Ability to push through change.
* Ability to prepare & present proposals to senior management, suppliers and/or other departments.
* Familiarity with Excel, Word and Power-point.
* Ability to interpret / read engineering drawings.
* Experience in conflict resolution desired.
* Continuous improvement tools.
