IT IS an exciting time at The Irish Post as our website - irishpost.co.uk - continues to grow and our digital operation expands.

The daily online coverage on IrishPost.co.uk is developing fast with the website containing news, features, blogs and reader polls across news, sport, entertainment, business and life & style.

There is great scope to expand and improve this editorial output.

We are now looking for a talented junior journalist to join our online team.

The online journalist will work under the online editor in our London office and will be expected to produce their own copy covering a wide range of stories related to Ireland and the Irish in Britain.

Picture editing and social media usage will also form part of the role.

The ideal candidate will have experience of using content management systems and an understanding of search engine optimisation. They will also regularly use Twitter and Facebook and have a good understanding of social media.

A basic knowledge of Photoshop and HTML is also desirable.

The candidate should ideally have a good understanding of Irish affairs and be full of ideas about how to use the latest digital tools to create fantastic content.

Preferred candidates will be able to take a traditional news story and find new ways and new angles in which to present it to a mass audience, while maintaining a high level of quality.

This is a junior position that will appeal to journalism graduates.
The salary will be between £15k-£20K

Responsibilities will include:
- Writing, curating and packaging the best and most relevant stories and pictures of the day
- Ensuring that live and breaking stories are continually uploaded and then updated to maximise traffic to the website
- Liaising with desk editors and reporters to ensure the most up-to-the-minute, dynamic and engaging content
- Working in tandem with our print new team
- Managing social media contents
- Generating creative ideas to increase the value of the websites
- Working with the in-house CMS
- Working with the online editor to increase web traffic

You will have:

- A journalism or digital media qualification, or equivalent experience in news - print or online
- Fast and accurate copy writing skills
- Flair for copy editing and headline writing
- Ability to spot stories that have the potential to go viral
- Excellent time management and organisational skills
- Ability to work with a team and adapt to new challenges

You will need to be:

- A strong ideas person with flair, wit and an imaginative approach
- Understanding of the need to work flexible hours as required
- Knowledgeable of social media
- An Irish background or knowledge of Irish affairs would be beneficial but not essential
