We are looking for a Entrance Systems Intergration Engineer for our manufacturing site in Derby!

The primary purpose of this position is to lead and direct a team of engineers to produce entrance system intergration designs on time, to quality & within budget.

Purpose of the job

· The candidate will be an established authority in Rail Entrance Systems (doors, interface and integration) and also have a demonstrable track record in the discipline of complex System Integration. Knowledge of other systems is desirable.
Responsibilities stretch throughout the product lifecycle from product development, test, through production, in-service support and finally decommission.

· The Entrance System includes the sub systems of door leaf structure, header mechanism, control unit, and sensoring, and encompasses the technical disciplines of mechanical systems, electrical systems and functional integration. The Entrance System interfaces with the train control management system, platform screen doors, and health and usage monitoring. A working knowledge of the end to end functionality and overall system is essential.

· An excellent knowledge of systems engineering and development, processes, methods and tools is essential. A good knowledge of product development processes and best practices is also highly desirable.

· The candidate will be an excellent negotiator and be experienced in technical supplier management and be able to demonstrate a proven track record in delivery. The Entrance System lead engineer will lead customer and supplier liaison, and strong communication skills are essential.

· The candidate will help develop the long term vision and roadmap for future Entrance Systems and their integration into the vehicle. The Entrance System lead engineer will be accountable to develop and deliver solutions and innovations which deliver a competitive advantage.

· The candidate will be commercially aware and be capable of delivering cost optimal solutions and be capable of providing cost and schedule estimates on complex engineering programs.

· Behavioral competencies required include strong energy and drive, ability to lead, and be part of a team, excellent negotiating and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Excellent technical authoring skills and the ability to review, assess, and endorse designs.

· Key responsibilities and challenges

· Creates, reviews and approves technical specifications, estimates costs and schedules, plans his/her own work of others, initiates and leads engineering design programs.

· Mentors less experienced engineers while requiring little personal supervision, imparts technical expertise and experience to others, demonstrates a consistently high level of quality and personal integrity.

· Designs engineering systems and complex interfaces, gathers and analyzes complicated technical data, solves system level design problems, performs system trade-off and coordination studies, creates novel design alternatives, develops reliability, safety and maintainability approaches, decides on optimum design approach.

· Understands, interfaces with and influences the design in relation to product and other systems.

· Tests, demonstrates and documents system level designs, develops test procedures, leads design reviews internally and with customers, delegates works to subordinates.

· Provides technical expertise in support of Customer Service, Program Management, Manufacturing, Field Start-up, Operations and Maintenance Manual production.

· Develops the long term vision and roadmap for future Entrance Systems and their integration into the vehicle.

· Develops and delivers solutions and innovations which deliver a competitive advantage

· Performs cost analyses, evaluates and recommend systems, sub-systems and components and the associated supply chain technical solution.

Qualifications

Qualifications & Functional Knowledge
· Degree and/or Chartered status essential, Masters Degree desirable.

· Technical domain experience essential, System Integration experience essential, System Architectural understanding essential.

· Rail experience desirable, we welcome applications from other industries including automotive, aerospace, defence, and manufacturing

· Significant experience and hands on delivery of the design, analysis, development, testing and delivery of engineering solutions that solve complex requirements.

· Provide cost and schedule estimates on complicated engineering programs.
