My prestigious client is looking for an Java Architect/Hands on Development Manager (Agile)

This is a unique position where you will be the overall technical authority governing a development department.

The purpose of this role is to:

* Ensure that the various development teams are producing high-quality software.
* Manage the overall technical direction of the department including technology choices, software architecture and infrastructure.
* Represent the department to other technology departments
* Understand and support the department's place in the overall company technology estate.
* Help build a first-class technical team by taking an active role in recruitment and the professional development of technical staff.
* Oversee the development of a new high-performance services tier.
* Work alongside other Principal Engineers with Software Engineering and with the central Architect for Software Engineering to ensure a consistent approach across the department.

You will have a background in software development and have previously held a senior technical position.

Key Technical Skills Needed:

* Strong Java Development
* Experience of using formal (Scrum, XP) Agile software development methods in a commercial environment.
Experience designing software in service-oriented architectures.
* Experience of implementing and supporting complex software, particularly high volume websites or transactional systems.
* Passionate about the benefits of Agile development.
* Demonstrates exceptional communication, interpersonal skills and consistent high energy levels.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to establish and develop relationships with peers and the business.
* Excellent time management skills in order to meet business deadlines
