Michael Page Design & Development are working with this leading Aerospace / Defence manufacturer to find a Principal Stress Engineer based in the Northern Home Counties.

Role description

To provide the following analysis services to Projects and Customer:
*Carry out full range of mechanical and system level analyses and investigations, including evaluation, selection of technical options, and prepare supporting reports.
*Prepare technical documents in support of analysis activities.
*Carry out analysis investigations into a full range of problems using classical calculations and analytical tools.
*Take a lead role for assigned analysis activities
*Plan, control and deliver assigned project work ensuring requirements are delivered to plan.
*Produce estimates and identify risks associated with analysis.
*Participate in collaborative ventures within the same skill areas, with colleagues in France.
*Act as the main point of contact with customers (internal and external), suppliers and collaborators for assigned analysis matters.
*Provide effective support to customers for assigned analysis, delivering solutions to meet the customer's needs and requirements plus the programme plan.
*Keep up to date and develop relevant technical skills, knowledge and capabilities. Seek and share best practice and knowledge to continuously improve practices.
*Make engineering decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority.
*Provide mentoring/coaching to help develop team members to support both their effective working and their development in associated technical competency field(s)
*Performance indicators will centre on the completion of work packages by delivering technically sound solutions.
*Delivering project/programme assignments to quality, time and cost.
*The successful individual must be able to work from first principles to define analysis problems and select the most appropriate and cost-effective method of solving them. This involves working closely with other areas including design (in-house and/or sub-contract design authorities). As technical problems are often associated with mechanical structural integrity and system level dynamics, both safety and legal obligations are paramount.
*Good communication skills are also required to deal with a potentially complex organisation and to justify decisions and risks to a project customer.
*To ensure consistency and technical excellence work will be reviewed and approved by the Project Chief Structural Engineer.

Who we're looking for
Experienced stress engineers from any discipline will be considered. In particular my client is looking to hear from candidates with specific experience in Composites (see below) or High Speed Dynamics, Thermal and Fatigue Stress Engineering.

*Ideally degree qualified or equivalent plus substantial relevant experience;
*Deep fundamental knowledge and experience in the field of Composites (monolithic, honeycombs) and non-metallic materials analysis;
*Supporting knowledge in one or more analytical competencies: Dynamic & Vibration analysis, Linear & Non-Linear Static Analysis;
*Excellent problem identification and solving skills;
*Able to provide technical leadership to others;
*Able to develop links with other technical specialists, including outside the business, and to network effectively on an international basis;
*Experienced in classical and Finite Element Analysis and preferably has used extensively from the following toolset, NASTRAN, PATRAN, MathCAD, Pro/Engineer, RADIOSS, ADAMS, Hyperworks, SAMCEF, Ansys, Abaqus, MSC Fatigue, Marc, Laminate Modeller.
