The Role
The NPD Manager will be responsible for a small team of NPD technicians and will be expected to work closely with the bakeries technical teams and production management. You will work closely with current customers to lead evolution of current products and also to work on the innovation of new products to either sell as our own brand or to pitch to/develop with our customers. Working closely with the Purchasing Manager in relation to raw materials. The post holder will be responsible for the NPD Technicians and will be expected to drive motivation and employee development.

Responsibilities will include:
* Creation and development of bakery products in the sweet, savoury and fermented dough categories
* Management of NPD process from concept to launch, including packaging and elements of marketing
* Develop strong mutually beneficial relationships with customers both internally and externally
* Management of bakery trials and taste panels
* Creation and maintenance of product specifications ensuring compliance with changing food legislation
* Take an active role in strategic development meetings with other senior management
* Preparation and creation of management reporting documentation for publication to the Bakery Managers and Directors, and where applicable our external customers
* Use of retailer web based systems
* Operate and develop safe systems of work to ensure efficient processes
* Carry out audits of development and processes
* Effective planning of schedules in line with production, sales, marketing and external customers
* Oversee the learning and development of staff to meet the requirements of the NPD function
* To ensure, where applicable, that specific machinery and processes are operated as instructed and in the correct manner
* Manage conformance to company quality systems through regular communication with the Bakery Managers and Technical teams
* Adherence to and issue of "controlled" documentation
* Ensure that you always work and conduct yourself in a safe manner, wearing the appropriate PPE
* A general responsibility shared with all employees for ensuring safety rules are obeyed and that unsafe practice or machinery is reported to the nominated Health and Safety responsible person
* To take overall responsibility for good housekeeping and eliminating hazards as applicable across the department
* Create, maintain and enhance effective working relationships with all other employees
* Communicate with your team weekly/daily forward plans so that your staff are prepared
* Develop self to enhance performance and develop team spirit

The Candidate
You will be able to demonstrate a successful track record of innovative development work and experience managing a bakery NPD function. This will be supported by a degree in a relevant food related subject. You will be looking for an opportunity to continue developing your passion for bakery product development in a long term role. In addition you will enjoy being customer facing and making full use of your working knowledge of the technical aspects of food innovation and development. A background in the bakery sector is essential, as is practical experience working with M&S.

The Package
