Our client is looking for a Product Development Technologist to lead the development relationship with the key M&S customer accounts. To deliver responses to project briefs and to provide proactive relevant product stimulation grounded in category, customer and consumer insight thus contributing to a deeper understanding of potential product solutions.To develop new products from concept to launch.
Key Accountabilities:
- To work with all departments to develop product solutions that deliver consumer and customer needs including the organisation of product panels, nutritional analysis
- To create and own the development plans by account including proactive concept development and high quality responses to specific briefs
- To build good collaborative relationships with retail partners, grounded in trust and accountability
- To set up, plan and project manage significant business projects and teams against agreed critical paths
- To ensure product solutions deliver against cost requirements.
- To carry out factory trials to identify process requirements for new product introduction.
- To interface effectively with development teams at other company sites to maximise efficient use of resources and facilitate transfer of knowledge and best practice.
- To effectively manage project risks and lead/influence the business on complex project definition.
- To work with suppliers to identify opportunities for product innovation
- To take responsibility for Food Safety, Quality and Legality, ensuring arrangements are implemented within all areas of control, internally and externally.
- To provide input and be guardian of relevant product key business data
- To be informed of technological, innovation trends, especially in our segment, competitive set, trade customers, equipment and ingredient suppliers and be able to apply to development projects.
Key Skills/Knowledge/Experience:
HND/ Degree graduate in subjects of Science, Technology or Engineering
OR Experience in leading and launching confectionery products across a wide range of technologies Food Science and Technology
Experience:
- Experience of applying food science/technology expertise (materials / equipment) to the design, development and delivery of innovation.
- Proven record of problem solving ability using scientific knowledge and principles.
- Can perform under pressure with experience of project managing / leading multiple complex technical projects.
- Retailer facing experience (leading product development with M&S required )
- Good understanding of common food ingredients and food process technology
- Demonstrated application of consumer insights and trends to generate breakthrough innovation
- Demonstrated good technical learning ability
- Experience of design, development and delivery of new confectionery products
- Understanding of supply chain demands.
- Understanding of consumer research
- Effective practitioner of risk management tools and techniques
- Good grasp of business financial measures
- Good understanding of confectionery processes and ingredients
- Working with multiple sites to deliver projects
