Salary range: £30,000 - £35,000 plus benefits (no car or bonus)

Our client is looking for an experienced Buyer within Engineering/Manufacturing

The successful applicant will be responsible for all aspects of procurement activity associated with procuring a designated range of goods and services at optimum cost, delivered to customers on time and to the required quality standard. The role may require the successful candidate to travel within the UK and overseas.

Key Responsibilities include:
* All transactional and strategic procurement activity associated with a designated range of category suppliers
* Accountability for day to day purchasing activities ensuring that customer needs are delivered in a timely manner Implement and manage optimum inventory levels to ensure product availability whilst minimise obsolescence and drive cost reduction
* Liaise with Quality, Operations and Engineering to ensure quality standards are adhered too in supply of goods and services
* Ensure security of supply for all critical products and services whilst achieving the best value for money on all procurement goods, works and services and reduce the cost of procurement process and ensure continuous improvement
* Encourage a competitive and varied supply market and apply best practice tools and techniques to analyse spend and gain maximum strategic and tactical advantage
* Manage negotiations for preferred suppliers and implement agreed SLA and contract terms that will benefit company performance
* Develop key supplier performance measures and reporting that will be used to monitor both supplier and company performance
* To contribute to the development of detailed specifications for goods and services and develop new sources of supply where it is advantageous to the company
* To review all aspects of performance from your supplier base and to issue monthly SOFT reports detailing actions taken to obviate any failures or threats to the business; this would include Adverse PPV, Adverse OTD, and Adverse Quality issues.

Essential Qualities include:
* GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths Grade C or above
* Buying experience, with a strong Purchasing background
* Experience in Procurement within a Engineering environment
* Proven track record of cost savings, vendor performance improvement with knowledge of supply chain practices
* Solid background in supply management, with strong vendor management skills and a strong discipline in supplier cost avoidance
* Focused on goal achievement with excellent background in senior-level negotiations
* Experience in Microsoft Office packages (including Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
* Good organisational, communication and interpersonal skills
* Accuracy and attention to detail
* Self-motivation to set, achieve and better desired objectives
* Professionalism in attitude, conduct and communication
* Ability to work as part of a team as well as on own initiative

Desirable Qualities include:
* Fully qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply
* Experience in MRP base systems
* Experience of a manufacturing background, with knowledge of the environment and requirements to support the business
* Knowledge of world market opportunities
* Full driving licence
