CRIMINAL DEFENCE SOLICITOR - EAST ANGLIA/ESSEX

In preparation for the next allocations of the duty rotas we have a number of clients looking to engage suitably qualified Duty Solicitors on both a permanent and part time basis. These clients include many category ``A`` crime practices along with more generalist high street firms providing criminal defence advice as a part of a wider service offering.

Key Candidate Criteria
- Candidates must be admitted as a Solicitor of England and Wales.
- Candidates must be recognised by the CDS as a Crime Duty Solicitor. As such candidates must;
o have successfully passed the Magistrates Court Qualification (MCQ).
o have successfully passed the Police Station Qualification (PSQ).
o have successfully passed their advocacy examination.
o have had their portfolio approved.
o Have received their pin from the CDS

- Candidates will be considered by our clients however if they expect to gain all the above before the 14th November.
- Candidates with Higher Rights of Audience will also be looked on favourably.
Vacancy Details
The responsibilities associated with the role will vary from client to client but typically candidates would be expected to;
- attend the police station and represent clients,
- prepare files for Court, and
- conduct own trials in both the Magistrates and Youth Courts.
The type and calibre of matters dealt with will again vary greatly dependent on client but we have clients covering cases including;
- Murder
- Assault
- Supply Class 'A' and 'B' Drugs
- Cultivation of Class 'B' Drugs
- Theft
- Handling Stolen Goods
- Firearms Offences
- Road Traffic Offences
- Human Trafficking
