Main Duties:
The Network Pre Sales Consultant provides highly skilled expertise on the design, implementation and support of large corporate network infrastructures covering both LANs and WANs and wireless networks, working at a detailed level on all major network device types (to include but not restricted to; routers, multi-layer switches, firewalls, VPN and security devices).

Specialisation in the Cisco and HP Networking portfolio of products and services is required.
This role is a design and a delivery role, but also involves a proportion of pre-sales.
Works with and supports Sales specialists, Account Managers and Project Managers in designing and delivering the installation, upgrade, operation, control, maintenance and effective use of local and wide area networks for the communication of data, voice, text or images within one or more information systems
Undertakes any technical training for networking vendors within their area of expertise, or any other vendors as required by SCC
Performs as required full network infrastructure audits on client sites to perform effective design optimized solutions.
Works with SDM's (Service Delivery Managers) to meet the required levels of service performance such as throughput, availability and response time, and the timely and effective handling of enquiries and requests for guidance or action on problems
Monitors and reviews the performance and quality of service provided by the network and its constituent hardware and software
Takes responsibility for the investigation, diagnosis and resolution of problems, including negotiation with users, specialists, other staff and suppliers as appropriate
Takes account of the needs for quality, security, availability and safety, utilising, as necessary, specialised techniques, tools, methods and standards
Uses established methods, hardware and software tools and procedures for planning, installing, configuring, commissioning, monitoring and investigating the network
Provides ongoing operational client support when scheduled to do so and carries out both simple and complex incident resolutions and changes; scheduled maintenance routines and network checks
Proposes capacity changes and contingency arrangements as required

Contributes to development of complex communication systems, including the areas of investigation, analysis, specification, design, construction, testing, maintenance, upgrade and migration

To further enhance the pre sales and post sales technical consultancy capabilities of the networking team. Utilisation of the network consultant (CCNP level) engineers can not be maximised due to limitations around ability to deliver complex designs for customer solutions

Skills, Knowledge & Experience:

Extensive knowledge of Cisco Networking CCIE R&S with CCNP Wireless and ISE accreditation. HP Networking - previously Procurve, 3Com, H3C Devices and HP Wireless.
Mandatory Professional certification is essential: CCIE R&S & CCNP Wireless and ISE accreditation, CCDP.

Desirable:
HP ASE in Routing and switching and mobility.
Minimum of 6 years experience in designing, implementing, optimizing and supporting large corporate networks
Up-to-date knowledge of industry offerings and their potential uses within the business
Good all-round technical knowledge of Cisco LAN/WAN network devices and design methodologies.
Other vendor knowledge and experience (F5, Citrix Netscaler, Fortinet , Aruba, Checkpoint) advantageous
Technologies, protocols and communication standards (eg. Ethernet, 100BaseT, ISDN, TCP/IP suite, VLSM, VLANs, RIP1&2, OSPF, BGP, MPLS, SNMP,)
Experience in network design and IP addressing architectures
Expertise in implementing and troubleshooting data networks
Knowledge of Cisco Nexus, CAT 6500's and FWSM's would be desirable
Experience/use of virtualisation
Familiar with the design, implementation and operation of data VPN solutions
Familiar with cabling standards and specifications (eg. UTP category 5&6, single and multi mode fibre)
Use of NetformX/DesignExpert (or other comparable tools) to perform network audits and optimization desirable
Experience of implementing and fault finding remote access solutions
Some knowledge of the operation of e-commerce based solutions including knowledge of SSL and load balancing technologies
Familiar with the design and implementation of DNS/DHCP/WINS services
Good working knowledge of implementing Change and Incident solutions within ITIL V3 processes and procedures.
Knowledge of network analysers and their use (eg. network sniffers)
Knowledge of Server and PC operating systems
