I am currently recruiting for a Commodity Lead for a leading manufacturer and supplier of specialist and precision components for the aerospace industry.
Job purpose summary:
The Commodity Lead is an integral part of the Supply Chain Team, whose primary purpose is to ensure effective and efficient flow of goods and sub-contract services from suppliers to the company point of need, utilising best practice throughout the supply chain. In order to execute the role it is recognised the Commodity Lead will be both flexible, adaptable and work as part of the greater leadership team, particularly with the Materials Management, Supplier Development, and associated operations and engineering/design functions. Lead designated Commodity IPT's, with engagement and support of key stakeholders, to develop and execute Commodity Strategies that drive long-term improvements in Quality, Cost and Delivery performance and provide competitive advantage to the company, its customers and suppliers
Key responsibilities and accountabilities
-Strategic Sourcing: accountable for the development of Commodity Strategy(s) and for ensuring the consequent execution of strategic sourcing activities through appropriate individuals in their buying teams.
-Team development: develop flexible appropriately trained team (as appropriate) able to respond to fluctuating workload demands. This includes completing staff appraisals and associated staff development, including fostering a culture of continuous improvements.
-Quality Manual/System: development and maintenance the appropriate sections of the Quality Manual and ensure compliance to all processes and procedures, ensure staff are trained in procedures, standard operations and work instructions. Supporting audits (internal and external) as required.
-Compliance: manage the retention and control of all departmental documentation ensuring compliance to internal and external requirements including, but not limited to, ITAR, CAA, Packaging Waste Regulations, COSHH, Customs and Excise regulations.
-Data/Information Management: manage and maintain the ERP (IFS) accuracy including all information relating to the commodity, suppliers, lead-times, pricing, stock records and batch quantities (not limited too).
-Cost Management: responsible for ensuring commercial negotiations are carried out in line with Category and Commodity Strategies. Conduct longer term cost planning based on commodity strategies and external market trends.
-Cost Control: develops and deploy an integrated approach to a wide range of Purchasing-related cost reduction activities - ensuring a balance between Unit Cost and Total Cost priorities. Develops and deploys a robust cost management system in conjunction with the Finance Team.
-Quality: accountable for quality performance of assigned commodities, in conjunction with Supplier Development Team.
-Risk Management: as a subset of the Commodity Strategy, responsible for deployment of Risk Management process using standard tools & processes to identify key risks and secure the required mitigation. Bespoke Risk Management tools can be used by exception.
-Material Review Board: contribute as appropriate relating to assigned Commodity/Suppliers..
-Critical Parts process: Contribute as appropriate, working with Materials Manager
Requirements:
-Five years experience in a Supply Chain function ideally purchasing or logistics.
-Has experience in cross-functional working and leadership of cross-functional teams.
-Experience in strategic planning and industry analysis at senior level.
-Experience in Supplier Relationship Management at senior level.
-Experienced user on an ERP system's Supply Chain (logistics/purchasing) functionality.
-Experience/accredited training in tools and techniques of Continuous Improvement.
-Team Leader qualification e.g. CIPS or ILM diploma or NVQ (or working towards)
