Enthusiastic and experienced Social Worker/Care Manager, preferably with ability to function as a Mental Health Officer, is required to join the Community Mental Health Team. In addition to functioning as a Mental Health Officer (if appropriate) the main duties of the post are to undertake adult protection work, multi-disciplinary assessments, compile integrated care plans and secure appropriate resources, support people with mental health problems and their families and assist in identifying unmet need and participate in service development.

Applications are invited from qualified Social Workers (DipSW, CQSW or CSS) who are registered with SSSC, who have experience in mental health work, have good oral and written communication skills and are committed to joint working and to working in partnership with service users and carers. Although preference would be given to candidates who are able to function as a Mental Health Officer, applications are also invited from Social Workers with experience of working with people with mental health problems who would be willing to undergo Mental Health Officer training. The ability to travel within Aberdeenshire is essential. Applicants must be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council.

Advancement to Senior Practitioner grade is dependent upon post qualifying training and experience, as part of career progression, and gives an opportunity to support staff with practice development. Please note that application for the Senior Practitioner Scheme is only possible where there is a Senior Practitioner vacancy within the team in which you are based.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. An offer of employment by Aberdeenshire Council will be subject to the outcome of this check being satisfactory. The preferred candidate will also be required to provide an Overseas Criminal Records Check from other countries as deemed necessary. An offer of employment by Aberdeenshire will be subject to the outcome of this check being satisfactory.

Job Purpose:
To provide high quality mental health social work and care management services as a member of a community mental health team(s).
Main Tasks

    Undertake Adult Protection work with service users with mental health problems and service users with dual diagnosis
    To provide preventive and statutory Mental Health Social Work Services which support the service user’s recovery
    To assess the care needs of services users and their carers, and to provide effective care plans in conjunction with Health Care colleagues
    To manage a devolved care management budget

Experience / Qualifications / Personal Qualities
Essential Criteria
  •     Experience of Social Work in a Mental Health Setting
  •     CQSW, DipSW or equivalent
  •     Must be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council
  •     Ability to provide a high quality social work service in a mental health setting
  •     Knowledge of Mental Health Legislation and policy development
  •     Ability to travel within Aberdeenshire
  •     Ability to work under pressure
  •     Being a team player

Desirable Criteria

    Experience of working in multi-disciplinary team settings
    Budget management skills
    MHO Training
    Computer Literate
