You have extensive experience within a housing environment and have knowledge of current Homelessness and Supporting People Legislation. You hold a recognised qualification for registration with the SSSC as a Housing Support Worker in Housing Support Services or equivalent or you will be prepared to study to obtain a recognised qualification within three years of commencing employment. Ability to travel is essential.

Working as part of a team which develops Aberdeenshire Council’s proactive approach to preventing homelessness, you will work with existing tenants and homeless clients providing advice and assistance to help them maintain their tenancy.

This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check.  An offer of employment by Aberdeenshire Council will be subject to the outcome of this check being satisfactory. 
The preferred candidate will also be required to provide an Overseas Criminal Records Check from other countries as deemed necessary. An offer of employment by Aberdeenshire will be subject to the outcome of this check being satisfactory.

Job Purpose:
To provide the main contact for clients / tenants requiring housing support in order to assist individuals and household maintain their tenancy. This will involve assisting existing SST tenants maintain their tenancies, assisting SSST tenants convert to a SST and assisting in preventing homelessness through helping to address the housing and support needs of various vulnerable groups, including children and families, young people, older people, people leaving hospital, prison and armed services, asylum seekers and refugees and rough sleepers.
The post will involve assessing support needs of clients (possibly using Single Shared Assessment) providing direct support and liasing with a range of Council services and external agencies that may have a role to play in providing housing support to clients and tenants. Taking on role of Key Worker where appropriate and monitoring and reviewing support plans as appropriate.

Experience / Qualifications / Personal Qualities
Essential Criteria
  •     Proven track record of experience with a social housing landlord, particularly homelessness and Supporting People
  •     The applicant must hold a recognised qualification for registration with the SSSC as a Housing Support Worker in Housing Support Services or equivalent or be prepared to study to obtain a recognised qualification within three years of commencing employment
  •     Knowledge of homeless and supporting people legislation
  •     Ability to work as a team member and independently
  •     Good communication skills, verbal and written
  •     Ability to organise / prioritise workload
  •     Awareness of customer and service needs
  •     Ability to maintain professional and confidential approach when dealing with vulnerable people
  •     Resourceful and persuasive
  •     Ability to travel within Aberdeenshire

Desirable Criteria
  •     Experience of working with vulnerable groups
  •     Formal Housing Qualification or equivalent
  •     Ability to assist and work with service development including customers
  •     Able to relate to different people in variety of situations
  •     Tactful and diplomatic in dealing with others
