The Role:
The Property and Terrorism Division is comprised of six main categories, Commercial Property, Onshore Energy, USA Homeowners, Construction, Inland Marine and International Terrorism, with business underwritten from a number of Hiscox offices including London, Guernsey and USA.
Reporting to the London Market Operations Manager, the primary focus of this role is the 'hands on' provision and development of operational support for Divisional Underwriters in London and for the Divisional Head in managing his oversight of the global Terrorism product. London Market business is written directly via Brokers and through Binders with Lloyd's Coverholders.
Services need to be both efficient and effective and delivered in accordance with agreed Operations procedures and Service Level Agreements. In order to achieve this you will be responsible for the day to day management of Operations Technicians/Underwriting Assistants.
Key Responsibilities:
* Effectively manage workloads and resource allocation to ensure appropriate management of relative priorities, maximisation of resource capacity and adherence to service levels
* Manage and develop direct reports to achieve predictable superb service, optimum individual productivity and qualitative performance levels
* Maintain appropriate understanding of the products, business models and technologies deployed, at a global level, for the classes of business represented in order to champion the needs and value of Operations
* Be a central reference point for operational service delivery, systems and processes for the Division and be accountable for planning and implementation of any agreed changes.
* Build strong productive relationships internally with Operations, Underwriting and other colleagues and externally with Brokers, Insurers etc. as required to complete and develop business
* Complete auditable quality checks at an appropriate frequency in order to maintain data integrity and service levels in relation to compliance with internal and external standards
* Use key performance indicators and monitor appropriate metrics to ensure performance levels are transparent at all times
* Sustain a culture of continuous improvement, challenge inappropriate or inefficient work practices to identify cost-effective and practical solutions
Person Specification
* Strong academic background, educated to degree level or equivalent
* Demonstrable experience in a technical operational role within the insurance industry
* Previous management experience in a Team Leader role essential
* The ability to motivate, coach and develop others
* Good working knowledge of the role of Brokers, Coverholders and Managing Agents.
* Strong analytical skills with the ability to rapidly identify key issues and present solutions to problems
