The Solution Specialist Director is a senior sales leadership role responsible for generating 50% of the overall UK sales budget. It leads a team of high-performing Advertising Solutions professionals and Vertical Specialists to meet or exceed challenging goals and commitments.
As a senior member of the sales team, we are looking for a strong and inspirational leader to join an exciting, growing part of the Microsoft Advertising business.
The Advertising Solutions team is tasked with ideating, selling and delivering high-value, creative, custom advertising solutions to agencies and clients.
The team, which is comprised of both Creative Media Sales Specialists as well as Operations Specialists, creates world-class content-based solutions across Microsoft’s portfolio of products including MSN, Xbox, Skype and Windows 8.
They engage on high-value partnership and solution opportunities with longer, more complex sales cycles and operational deliveries. These solutions also showcase the power and reach of Microsoft’s advertising platforms.
The Vertical Specialists are a team of senior sales professionals dedicated to specific industries (Tech/Telco, Automotive, Financial Services, Entertainment, Retail/FMCG). They are business development leaders of their segment and leverage their C-level client relationships within the verticals as well as BD level agency relationships. This team proactively delivers revenue-generating partnerships that go beyond digital advertising.
The leader of this team will drive thought leadership in the industry.
They will raise awareness and perception with CMOs at key clients; Heads of Strategy, Planning and Communication at Agencies and with Creative Leads at Creative Agencies.
They will lead the development of solution-based collaborative partnerships, leveraging the collective strength of internal teams to deliver industry-leading marketing solutions. Success in the role requires this person to be a strong contributor in the UK but also across the EMEA community.
The role is responsible for executing Business rhythm, reporting and educating internal stakeholders on business performance.
Duties / key Accountabilities:
Effective Leadership (40%):
1. Set and communicate the team’s vision, strategy & performance in the context of Microsoft’s vision & strategy
2. Identify and develop new solution opportunities for the UK Ad Solutions & Vertical Specialist team 3. Build, develop & manage team capabilities, growing a high performing Ad Solutions & Vertical Specialist team which is regarded as best in UK market 4. Manage the team to deliver on targets & commitments and to nurture the careers of top industry talent
Creativity (30%):
1. Drive creativity and innovation in proposals and solutions, illustrate cross-platform opportunities and best practice 2. Foster team culture and practice around creativity, ideation & solution development 3.
Build relationships & engage with Creative Agencies to evangelise the Microsoft technology platform
Execution Excellence (15%):
1. Proactively manage team compliance with Microsoft processes
2. Ensure excellence in sales operations (account planning, pipeline management, forecasting, proposal quality)
3. Ensure excellence in Ad Solutions operations
Strong, Engaged Executive Presence (15%):
1. Develop productive relationships with key C-level client & senior agency contacts in the industry
2. Ensure high quality client & agency engagement in line with UK Agency & Client Engagement Plans, and drive outstanding customer satisfaction
3. Evangelize Microsoft Advertising in industry & public forums
4. Collaborate with internal peer & partner teams to drive & enable Microsoft’s business
Knowledge, skills and experience and Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have significant relevant experience gained either in an agency or a media owner
Recognized in the industry as an expert in the digital advertising industry
Evidence of creating a strategic vision and driving long term goals while balancing this against short-term requirements
Proven ability to motivate and inspire a sales team around a strategic vision and to enable them to achieve their potential in terms of revenue, commitments and career goals
Well-developed relationships with CMOs at key clients; Heads of Strategy, Planning and Communication at Agencies contacts in Agencies and Clients and with Creative Leads at Creative Agencies. Excellent creative ideation delivery to major brands across multi-platform integrated marketing solutions
Ability to collaborate and lead in a large, complex matrixed organization
Local market knowledge
Superb communication and presentation skills combined with gravitas and credibility
Experience of formulating account plans / penetration strategies, customer opportunity maps and proposal delivery schedules
Project management and cross team leadership experience Negotiation & influencing skills
Pragmatic and action oriented – ability to identify critical issues and drive for quick resolution
Ability to see big picture while effectively managing details
