THE ROLE

To be the Senior buyer for the most mature and driven category, books. Whilst upholding 10 year strong relationships with publishers and in-house supply chain management teams you must bring exciting initiative to drive this already flying area of the business to that next level. Having the confidence to hard negotiate and the skill to adapt your negotiation styles to when empathy and a softer approach is needed. Being one of the seniors within the buying team you will be managing your team, ensuring everybody is performing to their best, constantly improving product selection, liaising with other management teams within the business, knowing your team and market inside out, handling complex data and analysis and most importantly proactively ensuring the best job is done for the customer by the whole of the buying team.

THE PERSON

You must be highly analytical and have that critical eye. Constantly trying to improve every aspect of your category whether that be margin or product selection. As Senior buyer you must set an example and be proactive, commercially aware, hungry to develop and forever using your initiative. You must hold the ability to judge each negotiation, relationship and opportunity and adapt accordingly. You will be looking after 10year strong publisher relationships and know how to drive that forward, also handling new relationships big and small, corporate and family business. You will be hungry and eager to develop, as senior buyer you will have an interest in all aspects of the business and see the sky as the limit. Media or book experience preferable but not essential. Degree required.
