You are an experienced teacher with a full GTC registration with a very good understanding of national curriculum policies. You have a first-rate knowledge of current planning, assessment and quality improvement procedures and have experience in department curriculum development. With great organisational skills, excellent time management and a proven ability to plan and deliver, you are approachable, enthusiastic and a team player. Any experience as a department principal, or acting principal teacher would be an advantage.

Please note that the grade for this position may be subject to change. Promoted Teaching Posts that meet the criteria will be resized on an annual basis, in line with the SNCT Handbook. Any grade change will be effective from 1st August each year.
Salary for this post will be in accordance with SNCT agreements. Applicants must be or eligible to be fully GTC Scotland registered. This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. An offer of employment by Aberdeenshire Council will be subject to the outcome of this check being satisfactory. The preferred candidate will also be required to provide an Overseas Criminal Records Check from other countries as deemed necessary. Job Purpose:
To lead and manage a team of teaching staff within the school and within the curricular area.
To progress the Authority’s and school’s aims and targets as set out in the appropriate improvement plans.
To promote learning and teaching of the highest possible quality and to maximise the attainment of all pupils.
Main Tasks
- Curriculum Management: To manage and quality assure all curricular areas of the faculty in an effective manner to ensure the highest possible quality of learning and teaching and maximum levels of learner attainment. Contribute to curriculum development and support at school level
- Personnel Management: To manage staff within the faculty effectively, actively promoting collegiate working and professional debate and reflection
- Resource Management: To manage the faculty’s resources in an effective and efficient manner and in accord with the school’s policies
- Administration: Within the terms of “A Teaching Profession for the 21st Century”, direct and oversee effective and efficient administration at faculty and whole school levels
- Learning and Teaching: Contribute to the delivery of a quality education to pupils in accordance with authority and school policies
Experience / Qualifications / Personal Qualities
Essential Criteria
- Class teaching experience
- Very good understanding of current planning, assessment and quality improvement procedures
- Major involvement in department curriculum development
- Very good understanding of national curriculum policies and priorities
- Registered or eligible to be registered with GTC Scotland
- Participation in further professional development and training
- Able to work effectively as part of a team (member and leader)
- Awareness of requirements of post of PT (Faculty) and ability to relate past experience to these
- Able to create a motivating learning environment and programmes of work, which take account of individual pupil, needs
- Able to act as a role model of good practice for other teachers
- Very good communicator (orally and written)
- Very good organisation and administration skills
- Ability to delegate and prioritise
- Ability to make balanced and decisive judgements. Leadership qualities

Desirable Criteria
- Principal Teacher or Acting Principal Teacher experience
- Major role in development of cross-curricular areas and whole school issues
- Very good understanding of local curriculum policies and priorities
- Post graduate qualification in education or management, or studying towards this
- Competent in the use of ICT, including application to learning and teaching
- Commitment to whole school developments and the wider life of the school
