HM Prison Wayland opened in 1985 and is a Category C men`s prison, located near the village of Griston (near Thetford) in Norfolk, England.
The post holder will work with pharmacy team in the day-to-day provision of a comprehensive pharmaceutical service at HMP Wayland working to the GPhC standards of conduct, ethics and performance and to Serco local and national policies.
Duties:
- Liaise with Lloyds pharmacy to ensure all stock and IP medications are ordered in a timely manner
- Liaise with GPs and other prescribers to ensure medication reviews are completed in a timely manner
- Issue In-Possession medications directly to patients, encouraging concordance, and aiding understanding by providing suitable patient information leaflets and advice
- Analyses and interprets prescription information, ensuring that prescriptions comply with current legislation, local and/or national protocols for e.g. substance misuse maintenance or detoxification.
- Ensure that stock levels are maintained in all dispensing areas and accurately recorded on stock balance sheets
- Plans and organises patient concordance (medicines management) reviews at HMP Wayland, ensuring patients have the necessary skills to enable them to manage their medication properly
- To dispense the full range of pharmaceuticals
- To act as a first point of call for handling Pharmacy enquires from all prison departments including Healthcare, dentist, GU, chiropody, pharmacist and patients, and deal with same or liaise with the pharmacist as appropriate
- Monitors and updates medicine-related policies for healthcare staff at HMP Wayland in conjunction with the Senior Pharmacist
Skills and Attributes:
Essential:
- Registered on General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) Register
- IT literate
- Ability to work autonomously, according to defined protocols but without direct supervision
- Ability to manage own workload independently
- The post holder must ensure confidentiality in all matters relating to patients / prisoners, to staff personnel matters and to any other information obtained during the course of employment. All Healthcare Information must only be shared with third parties in accordance with the data protection act and in line with local policies
One of the following competency approved qualifications:
* Pharmacy Services NVQ level 3 (City & Guilds qualification code 100/2201/6)
* Pharmacy Services NVQ level 3 (Edexcel qualification code 100/2615/0)
* Pharmacy Services SVQ level 3 (Scottish Qualifications Authority qualification code G75923)
And one of the following approved knowledge based qualifications:
* Edexcel BTEC National Certificate in Pharmacy Services (qualification code 500/1138/8)
* City & Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Pharmacy Services (qualification code 100/5845/X)
* SQA National Certificate in Pharmacy Services (qualification code G) plus successful completion of additional SQA modules Building Blocks Chemistry and Local Investigations
* Buttercups Training level 3 underpinning knowledge program
* National Pharmacy Association level 3 underpinning knowledge program
Desirable:
- Prison pharmacy experience
