Primary Tasks
1. Develop rock physics science in this priority science area (the physical properties of UK rocks)
2. Manage the BGS rock physics laboratory and identify and pursue research opportunities (grants, research programmes and commissioned work) to enhance its reputation and impact
3. Help develop collaborations across BGS and externally to deliver integrated multi-disciplinary projects within which rock physics is a critical component. This includes field survey and data collection, for applied projects assessing the physical properties of UK rocks
4. Publish scientific papers and prepare high quality technical/scientific proposals, reports, briefings to enhance personal and BGS Rock Physics Science reputation
Secondary Tasks
1. Work with Team Leaders and Directors of Science to deliver work programmes and establish science priorities
2. Play an active role in the development expertise within the Engineering Geology Science Programme
3. Identify opportunities to promote the work of the science programme and make presentations at conferences and scientific meetings
4. Involvement with developing project proposals and bids, and ensuring projects are delivered on time
5. Carry out performance management duties as required and comply with corporate management standards
