Description:
You will provide the main technical resource for the focus within the GSMA Future Communications Programme on IP Interconnect and IP Service Roaming. This role requires deep technical understanding of how IP networks can be interconnected in order to provide ubiquitous services across multiple operators. A technical understanding of how roaming of service operates today and the willingness to look at alternative means to provide IP services when roaming is needed. The Future Communications programme is reviewing all elements of the networks and their interconnections to see if the current mechanisms are still valid in an all-IP world, and will be making recommendations on changes that need to be made and on completely new mechanism for interconnect and roaming that may be useful. You will need to demonstrate clear understanding of mobile telecoms end-to-end systems and be comfortable communicating this at a range of levels of detail, to make understanding of complex ideas accessible to both internal and external audiences with a wide ranging level of technical background. You will also be required to attend some GSMA working groups when needed, to provide technical overviews and descriptions of general industry topics and specific GSMA projects. You may also be required to attend meetings of other industry forums. You will have a strong understanding of existing and future mobile technology and network architecture particularly with regard to interconnect, interworking, and roaming and be able to demonstrate knowledge of the future industry trends and their likely impacts on mobile network evolution and development. You will also be able to demonstrate the ability to understand the commercial implications of technical decisions and vice versa.
Context
Reporting to the GSMA CTO, the Technology Division is responsible for providing technical leadership for all of the major GSMA Programmes. Members of the Technology Department are key members of these programmes and also manage and support the activities of the technical working groups of the GSMA.
Criteria
Significant experience in a technical role within the Mobile Telecoms sector.
- Knowledge of existing and future mobile network technologies for interworking and interconnecting Circuit Switched and Packet Switched core networks; including GPRS, EPC, and IMS.
- Knowledge of Roaming and Interconnect principles; including GRX, IPX and NRTRDE.
- Both a commercial and technical understanding of the interconnection and roaming scenarios in mobile communications.
- Strong presentation skills and a proven track record of interacting with internal and external stakeholders, including C-level executives.
- Have experience of working in an international environment, working with geographically dispersed teams.

- Ability to demonstrates sound judgement in the escalation of issues and the formulation of solutions
- Attention to detail and understanding of need for high quality documentation.
- Evidence of a high quality of delivery in a complex and challenging environment
- Excellent English both verbal and written. The following attributes would be an advantage:
- Prior knowledge of GSMA Working Groups, their roles and inter-linkages.
- Knowledge of existing and future mobile radio access network technologies; including GSM/EDGE, WCDMA (UMTS, HSPA, HSPA+), and LTE.
- Ability to lead large projects from inception to completion, often involving a broad mix of individuals and companies with diverse skill sets.
- Understanding of the role of other industry forums including 3GPP, IETF, ITU.
