QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Preferred Qualifications:
o CIPS Qualification
o Membership of Chartered Institute of Purchasing and supply
o Degree level education
Preferred Experience:
o Minimum 5 years' experience as a Purchasing Manager.
o Experience in an engineering, purchasing or logistics discipline and a member of CIPS,
o Proven man-management experience of successfully managing a team.
o Proven track record of managing the purchasing function or operating as a senior purchasing professional preferably within a project based marine or engineering related business.
o Proactive and capable of working on your own initiative and within a team, you will need to be highly flexible, approachable and have excellent problem solving and contract negotiation skills, with the ability to work under pressure.
o Develop sound and professional relationships (internally and externally) that allow you to influence and or lead the decision making process.
o Significant time spent in the negotiation and control of external services suppliers and contractors.
SPECIFIC TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
- Understands and effectively applies the Company Quality, Health Safety & Environmental Policies and procedures as well as Business Operating Procedures
- Commercial awareness with expertise in negotiation techniques and financial management
- Understand and interpret legal terms and conditions of contacts.
- Understands and can interpret P&L reporting
- Critically evaluates technical and contractual information
- Protects and develops strong supplier relationships with clear and effective communication #
Key Duties:
Reponsible for creating and implementing a value-added purchasing strategy and managing all procurement
Design and implement sound purchasing process and procedures across the business working
Contract negotiations to ensure that the company obtains all materials, goods and services to the requisite standards and that cost optimisation is a key driver at all times
Continuously improve purchasing performance against specified criteria, i.e. price, payment terms, supplier performance measures, lead times and stock levels whether held ashore or on the vessels. Develop appropriate management KPI's, against various categories and implement / report on corrective action where necessary
Management of suppliers to provide exceptional service at lowest total cost
Continually identifying new opportunities for cost reduction and innovation across the business
Manage workload, priorities and performance of purchasing team
Comfortable with Matrix management
Actively assist and support company improvement
The ability to undertake national and international travel from time to time will be necessary
