Our client, a global IT consultancy requires a Infrastructure Engineer to work on site in Knutsford.
The ideal candidate would have worked in the financial sector previously in numerous roles.
Technical Expertise required
Networking Technologies - Utilises experience of design using LAN, WAN and Internet technologies and detailed troubleshooting of applications utilising TCP/IP protocols Displays ability to communicate that understanding both in written and verbal forms
Application Delivery Technologies - Utilises experience of design of application delivery environments, including IP firewalls, application firewalls, load balancing, DNS, web proxies and SMTP mail .
Web Applications and Systems - Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of web application architectures - web servers, Websphere etc Displays familiarity with detail of web application protocols HTTP - including proxying and cookies - SSL, SOAP etc
Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of application authentication mechanisms and understanding of web application security issues (including code injection, cross-site scripting etc
Vendor Product Familiarity - Utilises experience of network design using a multi-vendor environment, including Cisco, Juniper and F5.
Performs detailed troubleshooting of such environments, and demonstrates the ability to engage with application teams to extract appropriate in format.
Firewall Theory - Demonstrates deep practical knowledge of firewall theory, rule generation, configuration, constructing rulesets and requirements gathering Displays proficiency in different vendor types of firewalls.
TCP/IP Protocols - Applies knowledge of the TCPIP protocol Suite, VLSM, IP address allocation and IGRP, EIGRP, OSPF and BGP routing protocols .
Applies subject matter expert knowledge of all major routed protocols used within the group and can clearly articulate the environment
ITIL - Achieves ITIL Fundamentals certification or green badge
Network Management Skills - Demonstrates understanding of Network Management/Monitoring Practises, Displays knowledge of Toolsets available to aid these practices .
Articulates and explains at least some of the following;
TACACS/CiscoWorks/Probes/HP NNM/NTP/Firewall/Capacity management.
WAN - Demonstrates in-depth experience and insight of WAN routing technologies used.
Displays proficiency in configuring MPLS, Frame Relay, ISDN, etc.
Intermediate Skills
Cisco - Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of all major components of network infrastructure used within the group e g Cisco routers and switches, firewalls. Ability to configure all interfaces and ports
Cisco Routing - Demonstrates deep understanding of routing protocols incl static, OSPF, BGP.
Shows understanding of how multiple protocols interact together.
Displays knowledge of routing product line.
Displays familiarity with internal standards and design principles.
Demonstrates in-depth knowledge on routing protocols.
Troubleshoots and fixes problems.
Knows and adheres to related standards
Cisco Switching - Demonstrates deep understanding of switching protocols incl STP, switched LAN topologies, VLANs. Shows understanding switching performance issues, knows switching product line. Displays familiarity with internal standards and design principles. Demonstrates in-depth knowledge on switching protocols, can troubleshoot , fix problems; knows and adheres to related standards.
DNS/DHCP - Demonstrates understanding of DNS/DHCP and tools used to support this
Netflow - Demonstrates understanding of Netflow processes and tools.
Displays awareness of the different versions of NetFlow and what they can achieve
Network Management Practices - Demonstrates understanding of Network Management/Monitoring Practises, Displays knowledge of Toolsets available to aid these practices .
Articulates and explains at least some of the following;
TACACS/CiscoWorks/Probes/HP NNM/NTP/Firewall/Capacity management.
Product and Vendor Evaluation - Articulates the process by which products and vendors are evaluated by describing overall considerations, including risk.
Understands specific details of who performs each task / activity during the process.
Understanding IT Service Management - Demonstrates basic understanding of IT Service Management and the fundamental principals of ITIL.
Demonstrates ability to name and explain the main ITIL categories for ITSM. Achieved ITIL Foundation Certificate
