Job Purpose

To support the development of and to implement end-to-end category management strategies, working with National Grid IS team to ensure best value and reliability from the supply markets. Responsible for managing the end to end Work Pack process related to IS Solution
Delivery contracts
This position is responsible for daily operations of strategic procurement within IS Services. Assists the Category Manager (UK) and the Senior Category Manager in leading key teams and integration activities and is able to manage multiple, complex bid negotiations and strategies at one time. Executes standardised strategic sourcing processes for assigned categories. Builds and maintains strong working relationships with internal customers and key suppliers. Provides a balanced focus on customer service and cost savings. Identifies and captures new savings opportunities enterprise-wide.

Knowledge and Qualifications Required
CIPS Qualified
Degree standard or equivalent
Prior experience as a buyer or a proven track record as an Assistant Buyer
Experience Required
Experience of strategic sourcing and category management including:
- Development of category specific commercial strategies
- Management of competitive compliant tender process
- Negotiation and contract generation
- Proven experience of senior stakeholder management
- Experience using analytical tools and techniques to make informed business decisions
- Experience of working with customers/stakeholders/suppliers across all levels of an organisation
 
Other capabilities:
- Ability to bring creative and innovative ideas to deliver procurement solutions
- Ability to build effective relationships within National Grid and/or external organisations
- Skilled at working through multi disciplinary teams - including non procurement staff and varying levels of seniority.
- Contribute to process improvement across the business in order to improve customer buying experience and ensure maximised cost effectiveness

- Understanding of/exposure to the products and assets of the category department - utilities regulation desirable.

Job Dimensions
Responsibility for financial expenditure (OPEX/CAPEX/REPEX) from £4 million to £250 million with approval of Senior Category Manager (UK)

Stakeholders / Main Interfaces

-Close working relationships are required with a number of major interfaces, namely:
- Category Manager and Senior Category Manager (UK)
- Procurement Assistant and/ or Assistant Buyer (Procurement) to execute required systems entry and contracts
- Stakeholders, in particular IS who require the specified purchases as part of the day-to-day operating requirements
- Suppliers
- Other Category Management teams (including US colleagues)
- Legal team to ensure appropriate contract language
- LOB Team Member with accountability for expenditures (Typically a manager with the appropriate delegation of authority)
- P2P for end to end payment process implementation

Key Accountabilities

-Responsible for overseeing and managing the end to end Work Pack process for IS Solution Delivery within the IS Services team, including any commercial challenges
- Utilises the Category Management Process to undertake sourcing events
- Lead and manage complex negotiations within the IS Services team
-Profiles sub category characteristics, researches supply markets and suppliers and assess trends, opportunities and risks across IS Services
- Organises information, tasks and activities using appropriate project management tools and resources

- Develops and applies selection criteria and evaluation methodology to match suppliers with requirements and develops a supplier portfolio
- Works in partnership with regional / global customers
