An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Category Manager to join our DS Smith site in Kemsley.
You will responsible for designing, implementing and improving global agreements for Industrial Goods or Capex for either Local, regional, divisional or group organisations. It is important that you deliver value for money and provide innovation in accordance with agreed world class procurement strategy and business plans to deliver genuine competitive advantage for DS Smith.
The individual will act as a role model of professional procurement practice, delivering high quality solutions to meet the needs of the organisation, delivering value and have commercial influence over DS Smith's third party expenditure.
You will also be responsible for:
* Developing relationships with stakeholders to understand the needs of the business and maintains appropriate stakeholder maps.
* Participating in and supporting procurement transformation throughout DS Smith.
* Participating in and supporting IG and Capex team; propose improved solutions, work on team projects; share information; respect procedures and standards
* Undertaking rigorous business requirements analysis
* Acting as a Procurement advisor within DS Smith and externally as appropriate.
* Setting stretch targets for his/her scope of responsibility and work with the business to achieve them
* Managing projects, proposing alternative solutions and be credible with the technical community
* Adapting the procurement strategy with workflows that deliver efficient and effective performance against Group Procurement framework to an identified request.
* Developing and documenting implementation plans, together with regional/divisional procurement, which include comprehensive business requirements analysis and quantified cost reduction/improvement targets.
* Developing and implementing rigorous contracts for all critical, strategic and preferred suppliers within the category, incorporating service level and continuous improvement targets
* Negotiating and influencing in an Oligopolistic market environment.
* Planning and carrying out activities that drive towards Procurement & full cost progress toward Best-in-Class Procurement.
* Implementing appropriate supplier management plans and manages supplier reviews for strategic / critical and preferred suppliers.
* Maximising DS Smith's purchasing power to improve its competitive edge and to deliver best value.
* Monitoring and reporting on activities and providing relevant management information.
* Identifying, developing and managing suppliers.
* Holding regular review sessions with key internal customers and suppliers in collaboration with regional procurement.
* Using eSourcing (where appropriate) to conduct supply market research, competitive bidding analysis, evaluation etc.
* Maintaining an effective communication plan detailing stakeholders, supplier contacts, and supplier reviews, cross functional workshops etc.
* Other duties as directed by the Capex and Industrial Goods category director from time to time.

The must haves:
* Experience of Procurement Operations.
* Experience of Project/Task Management
* Graduate calibre or equivalent purchasing or CIPS qualification, or proven level of expertise.
* Specialised knowledge in breadth and depth and is viewed as the subject matter expert.
* Demonstrates an understanding of strategic sourcing tools.
* Experience of managing projects across multiple & international stakeholder groups.
* Experience of conducting successful commercial negotiations.
