Atkins Rail Communication System (RCS) provide security and telecommunications systems to the railway, underground and airport sectors within the UK.
Due to a number of key project wins we have opportunities to join our existing Railway Telecoms Design Team based in our London Euston Tower Office as a Telecoms Station Design Engineer working on one of our current UK Rail Infrastructure Projects.
The Opportunity
On a day to day basis, you will be undertaking the production of Railway Telecoms Designs, coordination with the client and developing stage works plans. The activities cover both Operational Telecoms and Station Information and Surveillance Systems (SISS).
Essential Criteria
- Degree or Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or Communications Disciplines.
- Significant Current / Previous UK Railway Telecoms Design Experience.
- Excellent working knowledge of 2 or more of the following subsystems;
- Public Address / Voice Alarm Design
- Closed Circuit Television Systems Design
- Ethernet Networks Design
- Structured Cabling Design
- Coordination with other disciplines.
- Production of stage works designs.
Requirements
- Willing to travel and work at various locations within the UK
- Willing to work unsocial hours as required on an occasional basis
- Holder of IRSE Telecoms Design or Project License (or working towards)
- Competent in Microstation/Autocad
- To have adequate health and fitness as candidates will undergo client's medical tests to work on their premises.
- Able to produce written communication that is easily understood.
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work within a team
Responsibilities
This will involve undertaking the following activities;
- Co-ordination with other disciplines (internal and external) in the placement and integration of communication equipment within the overall design;
- Production of design deliverables including specifications, reports, schedules, drawings and technical schematics;
- Production of temporary and stage works designs,
- Management of 3rd party design resource utilised in producing elements of the design (e.g. acoustic consultants, CAD);
- Management of 3rd party equipment manufacturers and suppliers to ensure proposed equipment is suitable for the individual project requirements;
- Verification of the design against customer requirements and standards;
- Attendance at internal and external co-ordination, progress and design review meetings;
- Undertake design reviews of other concurrent Communication Systems designs.
